"I have spent my entire adult life living and working in Lane County, and like many other transplants, I consider myself an Oregonian. I spent my childhood in Connecticut – a state almost the exact same size as Lane County, and I believe I have the best combination of an eastern rural - and frugal - upbringing and a northwestern maverick mindset. I love it here – we are surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and live in tandem with some of the country’s most community-minded people. For us, no matter whether we migrated to Lane County or were born and bred here, it is our home now."

"My mother came to this country from Germany and I am lucky to be married to another child of immigrants, Julie Hulme, who has taught first grade locally for more than two decades. Julie and I live on the beautiful Willamette Greenway and are active in our River Road community where we have lived for more than 20 years."

"Like many of you in Lane County, I attended both Lane Community College and the University of Oregon. Now, as County Commissioner, I am pleased to offer internship programs for students from both these fine institutions."

"When it came time to decide on a career, I realized that it was important to me to love my work, to be outside, and to have a job where I could devote some of my time to volunteer in the community and be active in civic matters. To reach all of these goals, I started and ran my own landscaping business for more than 25 years here in Lane County. Being a small business owner led to my life-long commitment and support for locally owned businesses. We are the heart of every community. With the flexibility that comes from owning my own business, I was able to volunteer in the areas I loved – with youth sports programs, youth mentorship programs, neighborhood organizations, civic groups, and in support of a variety of efforts to sustain our beautiful local environment."
