Joyce Segers

As a wife, mother, and small business owner, I have lived the problems Oregonians are facing on a daily basis.

For 19 years I ran a small business helping thousands of people navigate the maze of medical insurance. I saw honest, hard working families try to navigate the medical bureaucracy, become saddled with debt by unscrupulous corporations and give up. I vowed to help make the system work for, rather than against, ordinary people.

My husband died in 2004, my son is grown now and has started a family of his own. So last year I sold my home and business and moved to Oregon to create a new life for myself. When I arrived, this beautiful state made by purpose crystal clear; I am here today to serve you.
The challenges before us are immense and complicated. The solutions are not easily captured in a 30 second sound bite. But we can’t afford to wait any longer. Almost 78,000 Oregonians are out of work, our health care system is in disarray, our schools are falling down, and the environmental challenges facing our society are immense.

I am not a career politician. I don’t claim to have all of the answers, but I am certain that the path forward lies in cooperating with one another, not dividing us along narrow political lines.

Politicians want us to believe that Democrats and Republicans are mortal enemies locked in a battle of good versus evil, with both sides claiming piety. I don’t think Oregonians buy into this nonsense. We all want the same basic things: jobs that pay a living wage, schools that we can be proud of, healthy food on our tables, strong families, and a brighter future for our children. Now is the time to come together to create our brighter future together.

I’m Joyce Segers and I value jobs that pay a living wage, accessible health care, healthy food on our tables and a sustainable environment for our future. And I know that by working together we can once again shine our light on the ideals that led our country to greatness.
