State Representative Greg Matthews

Greg Matthews has spent the past twenty years serving the Gresham community and helping to keep our families safe. As a firefighter, police officer, and volunteer, Greg has learned firsthand the problems Gresham faces and he’s worked hard on the solutions we need.

Born and raised in Gresham, Greg enlisted in the Army after graduating from Gresham High School. Serving as a Paratrooper and Military Police Officer, Greg fought in the Battle of Grenada, earning the rank of a non-commissioned Sergeant.

After defending his country overseas, Greg moved home to protect his hometown as an Officer for the Gresham Police Force. Greg served as a lead officer in the Gresham Barlow School District, teaching schoolchildren Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), and giving kids the tools to make good choices while resisting drugs and violence. His eleven years of service earned him recognition as the “Officer of the Year” by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1997.

Greg currently serves as a Lieutenant for the City of Gresham’s Fire Department. In 2005 he was named the “Gresham Fire Employee of the Year.”

Every summer, Greg works with at-risk kids at Camp Rosenbaum to show them they can choose to live a better life away from the troubled paths of dropping out of school, crime, gangs, drugs and violence. Greg regularly helps organize Drug Free School events, and can often be found emceeing local charity auctions and community events.

Greg and his wife Suzette are small business owners of a local daycare and the parents of three daughters.
