NEWS FROM OREGON DEMOCRATIC ELECTED OFFICALS

Happy Independence Day

July 4, 2010

I want to wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable Fourth of July - a time to share with friends and family, but also a time to celebrate the deeper meaning of our Nation's 234th birthday.

You know, Oregon hasn't been around as long as the United States. We only became a state in 1859. But time and again, we have proven ourselves tough, independent, innovative and every bit worthy of the high ideals in the Declaration of Independence.

And Oregon's best days still lie ahead. Yes, we face some tough times right now, but we also have what it takes to move beyond them. So today let's celebrate our Nation's birthday and let's also recommit ourselves to meeting today's challenges together as Oregonians: one State, one people, one destiny.

Happy Fourth of July!
